I’ve done it.
A little over a year after I’ve published this blog, I’ve caught up to my immense backlog, and I’ve put up the poetry and the short excerpts of my past on this blog.
There are words that have fallen through the cracks, of course. My years of words on roleplaying forums, happily at home amongst my friends’ characters and words. The poetry I found that were clumsy attempts at sharpening the point of my pen. The diary entries that are a roiling mess of thoughts and errant distractions.
I looked at each of them, and ultimately decided that they should stay where they were. The decision was one that I had a fair amount of consternation over, but as I mulled through it with my morning pages, I realised that a part of the reason why I kept wanting to haul them up and throw them into the blog was due to pride, more than anything else.
I told myself I wanted to post 2x a week on this blog, and I wanted to keep that promise.
But the words have places where they wish to exist, and need to honour that too.
So it is new works from now on (new-old, really. If anyone was detailed enough to cross-reference what I mention in my letters to the reflections that emerge from the thoughts, you’d realise that my musings often have a gestation period of at least a year) instead of the pretty even mix I’d actually kept so far, and this space will reflect that.
For one, the regularity and pace of my work will slow. Where old works can require extensive reworking, the bones are there. New ideas need the time to form, to connect, before I start finding their center and build out from there. I am currently working on my Recovery series, and in an attempt to keep with its’ lessons, it will take as long as I need it to.
I want to keep the same standard and love that I have for what I put out. And so I shall.
Unfortunately, that does mean I don’t have a clear timeline for the work I’m putting out, but that does mean that there will be a more organic timeline, one with which anyone could probably deduce my rest and work cycles, if they put their mind to it.
I also anticipate more reflections then poetry, moving forward. Recently, I have found myself in a more (dare I say it) prosaic time of my life. I do still write poetry, but it is no longer the default form of writing I lean to instinctively.
When they come to me, my poems are more intentional now, more conscious. They come to me as a poem because the expression of it requires a certain form. It is an interesting shift. With this change, I have also found myself submitting more poetry to journals, and a part of the submission process is often that whilst they have the potential of being published in a journal, I cannot put them on the blog.
Additionally, after the Fighting Boars short story, I’ve found the act of putting a short novel on here a little messy, if it cannot be contained within 3 or less parts, or have each part stand on its own. I meant this site to be a repository of my writings, but I think the fever dream section is going to hold just my shorter fictions, or excerpts.
At least, that is the decision I am making for now. We are all just the Universe discovering itself, and to be honest, I’m enjoying discovering the shape that this site is forming. In the creation of the space, I am also exploring what it means to me.
The seeds are all there, but they all require craft and care to bring to fruition.
I’m beyond excited for the writing I have planned, and to share the pieces I want to write with all of you.
Erratically present but always with love,
Hagintha
