Who are we, but ourselves.
What are we, but each other.

You will find me

You will find me:
In the split moment between
the flash of a spark and the ensuing explosion of flame.
Eyes locked unto the space,
ready for even the barest glimmer of light,
Suspended in the hang in the air where it is unknown whether the flame caught-
If it’s death was enough.
It is riveting, the uncertainty, even after all the motions have been made.

You will find me:
Deep in the rifts of the ocean,
amongst sunken shipwrecks,
Swimming through walkways,
Hovering at the helms of the great ships.
Victims forcibly snatched from a schedule of trips and deadlines to meet by the month,
To be caught in a new timeline-
An eternal pause that is really a slow crawl toward desolation.
It is poignant, how they gained permanence and beauty by their failure and death.

You will find me:
Hidden in the forest,
Seated upon a crumbling wall.
My fingers running across soft moss and rough brick,
With the delicacy and care most reserve for their loved ones.
Broken in places and protecting nothing as the moss softens their edges,
Abandoned sentinels of a war long forgotten,
Whether against animals, the weather or other humans.
It is enchanting, how they were manmade yet are now a part of the land, having earned their spot amongst the trees by fighting their own battle against the forces nature and people had to offer.

And when you find me:
I will be throwing myself off of mountains,
Plunging thoughtlessly into the ocean,
Climbing up the corporate ladder till I hold all the prestige,
Only to let go-
Watching it slam against the floor,
Waiting to see if it will shatter.
Riding my body through its own complaints and sleepiness as I search for a Minotaur only to grab it by the horns and start to dance.

Or maybe you will find me:
A pile of bleached bones sunken in the ocean,
In a legend of a girl who once courted all the dangers she could.
Or perhaps in a warning-of frivolousness- of how she finally met the danger that stole her life.

But I did not do these things to be found.

So if you do find me,
I will let you take what you want from me-
Lessons, tales, inspiration,

But you will not find an apology.
